VIC: Truck driver to stand trial over Kerang crash
BENDIGO, Vic, Aug 18, AAP - The truck driver involved in the 2007 Victorian rail disaster
that claimed 11 lives has been ordered to stand trial.
Christiaan Scholl, 49, of Wangaratta, has been charged with 25 offences, including
11 counts of culpable driving, over the crash on June 5 last year.
The crash occurred when Scholl's semi-trailer and a Melbourne-bound V/Line passenger
train collided at a level crossing north of Kerang in northern Victoria.
Today was the third day of his committal hearing in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court.
Magistrate Bruce Cottrill today committed Mr Scholl to stand trial, ruling he was satisfied
there was enough evidence to justify a conviction in a higher court.
Scholl indicated he would plead not guilty to all charges.
